My Spicy Honey Dips for a Sweet & Hot Treat (Sawsawan)

Hi, honey friends! Today, I’m super excited to share how I mix honey with a spicy kick to make yummy dipping sauces. These dips are perfect for lumpia, fried chicken, or even crispy fries. I love how the sweet from honey and the heat from chili come together—it’s like a little party in my mouth!

1. Simple Spicy Honey Dip

  • What I Use:
    • 2 tablespoons of honey
    • 1 teaspoon of chili flakes or a few drops of hot sauce
    • A pinch of salt (optional)
  • How I Make It:
    1. I put the honey in a small bowl.
    2. I stir in the chili flakes or hot sauce.
    3. I add just a tiny pinch of salt to balance the flavors.
  • Why I Love It:
It’s quick to make and perfect for dipping lumpia or crunchy vegetables. The honey cools down the spicy chili a bit, so it’s not too hot.

2. Honey Calamansi Chili Dip

  • What I Use:
    • 2 tablespoons of honey
    • Juice of 1 calamansi
    • 1 teaspoon of finely chopped chili peppers (or hot sauce)
  • How I Make It:
    1. I squeeze the calamansi juice into a bowl with the honey.
    2. I add the chopped chili peppers (or hot sauce) and mix well.
    3. I taste it—if it’s too sour, I add more honey; if it’s too sweet, I add another drop of calamansi juice.
  • Why I Love It:
It has a zesty flavor from calamansi plus a spicy kick. I like dipping fried chicken in this sauce for an extra pop of taste!

3. Choosing My Heat Level

I know chili peppers can be very hot, so I start with a small amount. If I want more heat, I add more chili flakes or hot sauce little by little. This way, I don’t make the dip too spicy for my friends or family who might not like too much heat.

A Friendly Tip

Remember to store any leftover dip in a clean container. I keep it in the fridge for up to a few days. When I want to use it again, I just give it a good stir!

That’s it for Day 19! I hope you’ll try these spicy honey dips and enjoy the sweet-and-hot burst of flavor. Tomorrow, I’ll share another fun idea for using honey in our daily meals. Until then, keep things sweet and spicy!

P.S. Do you have your own secret spicy-honey mix? I’d love to know your recipe!
